New productivity: Jiangxi base of Nord successfully trial-produced the first roll of 4-micron lithium battery copper foil for drones
07-05
On July 5, 2024, in the foil production workshop of the No. 2 plant at the Nord Shares Jiangxi base in Guixi City, Jiangxi Province, a lithium battery copper foil with a thickness of only 4 microns slowly emerged from the foil production machine and was gradually rolled up. After hundreds of days and nights of hard work, Nord's Jiangxi base successfully trial-produced the first roll of 4-micron lithium battery copper foil for drones. Zhang Yongjun, General Manager of Jiangxi Nord, Ren Guodong, Deputy General Manager, and heads of relevant production departments, as well as relevant personnel from China Construction Sixth Engineering Bureau, participated in the trial production activity.
In early 2022, the construction of the Nord Shares Jiangxi base, a key project in Jiangxi Province, commenced. The project was planned in two phases. Through the concerted efforts of the owner, contractor, supervisor, Yingtan City, and Guixi City governments, the project progressed smoothly despite the challenges of the pandemic. Upon completion of Phase 1, this will become a major high-end lithium battery copper foil production base in East China.
Yingtan, Jiangxi, is known as the "World Copper Capital." Yingtan currently has 63 high-tech copper enterprises and 102 copper-based strategic emerging industry enterprises. It has drafted 32 national and industry standards, ranking first in the country. Leveraging Yingtan's copper industry cluster and Nord Shares' technological advantages in lithium battery copper foil, the Jiangxi base will focus on producing 4-micron lithium battery copper foil for drones.
In recent years, drones have been applied in an increasing number of fields, exhibiting explosive growth in demand. In the military field, drones can be used for reconnaissance, strikes, and target practice; with the needs of aerial photography, consumer drones are rapidly developing; in the industrial field, due to their high cost-effectiveness, wide range of applications, and ease of use, especially their strong environmental adaptability, drones have significant advantages in operations under complex and dangerous conditions, and have been widely used in aerial photography, surveying and mapping, agricultural and industrial operations, and disaster relief.
The power system of drones is mainly lithium batteries. Currently, Nord Shares has in-depth cooperation with leading drone lithium battery companies such as ATL, Xinwangda, and Desay Battery. Given the rapid growth of the drone industry, Nord Shares is actively expanding its production of lithium battery copper foil for drones, leveraging its technological advantages to meet the growing business needs of its customers.
As one of the pioneering enterprises in the independent research and development and production of electrolytic copper foil in mainland China, Nord Shares has always adhered to the mission of serving the nation through industry.
In 1999, after seven years of research and development, Nord Shares produced China's first domestically produced 18-micron galvanized copper foil, breaking the foreign technology monopoly that had lasted for more than 30 years.
In March 2003, Nord successfully developed the first domestically produced 9-micron double-sided polished electrolytic copper foil for lithium-ion batteries and achieved mass production.
In January 2010, the first domestically produced 400-micron ultra-thick electrolytic copper foil was produced, obtaining a national invention patent.
In 2013, it was the first in the industry to develop 6-micron double-sided polished lithium battery copper foil products.
In 2018, it successfully developed porous copper foil current collectors for solid-state/semi-solid-state lithium batteries.
In 2019, it was the first in the industry to develop 4-micron double-sided polished lithium battery copper foil products.
In 2021, it was the first in the industry to develop 3.5-micron double-sided polished lithium battery copper foil products.
In 2022, it successfully developed composite current collectors (composite copper foil, composite aluminum foil) products, with leading technology.
After more than 30 years of development, we have participated in the formulation of six national and local copper foil standards, hold nearly 300 technical patents, and have in-depth cooperation with most of the top 20 lithium battery manufacturers globally. Nord Shares has become a technology leader and leading supplier of lithium battery copper foil worldwide.
With a vast future ahead, Nord is pursuing the new energy track. Building on the existing production capacity of 70,000 tons of electrolytic copper foil at the Huizhou, Guangdong and Xining, Qinghai bases, the Hubei base officially went into production in April this year, bringing Nord's electrolytic copper foil production capacity to over 120,000 tons. Now, with the successful trial production at the Jiangxi base, Nord Shares will continue to implement the concept of "high-quality development," creating more new productive forces to serve global customers.
